Ranking Member Johnson Congratulates Nobel Prize Winners

(Washington, DC) – Recently, researchers in the fields of chemistry, physics, medicine or physiology, and economics received 2012 Nobel Prizes for their contributions to the sciences.

House Science, Space, and Technology Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) offered the following statement.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to all the recipients of the 2012 Nobel Prize.  Their research has been truly groundbreaking, and I have no doubt that the impacts of their research will be far-reaching.  I am pleased to see so many Americans on the prize list again.   The awarding of the Nobel Prize is always a great reminder of the importance of continued investments in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.  I want to give special congratulations to Dr. David Wineland of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the fourth Nobel winner from NIST.  I can’t think of a better way to highlight the benefits of our federal investments in sciences than by pointing to a federally-funded scientist who represents one of the best and brightest in his field being recognized with one of the most prestigious scientific awards in the world.”
