Chairs Johnson and Beyer Statement on NASA Day of Remembrance

(Washington, DC) – Today, on NASA’s Day of Remembrance, we honor the NASA heroes who lost their lives while advancing our nation’s discovery and exploration of space.

“NASA’s annual Day of Remembrance is an important time of reflection," said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). "As we look to the future and our ambitious goals in human space exploration, we must never forget the past-- the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in our nation’s pursuit of space exploration. We must recommit to honoring the legacy of these heroes and work as they did, with bravery and courage, as we continue to explore the universe.”

“Today, we pay tribute to the crews of Columbia, Challenger, and Apollo 1, who tragically lost their lives while working to advance our understanding of the universe,” said Chairman Don Beyer (D-VA) of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee. “The dedication of these crews has inspired many generations of Americans and will inspire generations to come. On this day of remembrance, we honor their sacrifice and reaffirm our commitment to the United States space program. We will always remember the bravery and sacrifice of these American heroes and their families.”
