Chairwoman Johnson and Commerce Secretary Raimondo Look Toward Continued Partnership with America COMPETES

(Washington, DC) – Today, the House passed the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength Act of 2022. The America COMPETES Act makes historic investments to surge production of American-made semiconductors, tackles supply chain vulnerabilities to make more goods in America, bolsters America’s scientific research and technological leadership, and strengthens America’s economic and national security at home and abroad. The America COMPETES Act of 2022 was sponsored by Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and includes transformative, bipartisan legislation from the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

 

“Today, through the passage of the America COMPETES Act, the House has taken an essential step to reinvigorate American manufacturing, maintain American leadership in innovation, and ensure the country’s economic future,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “As part of this package, the CHIPS Act funding will incentivize substantial increases in domestic semiconductor production to improve semiconductor supply chain resiliency and security, create hundreds of thousands of good jobs, and ensure America’s continued leadership in microelectronics innovation. American leadership in innovation will also be supported through the Regional Innovation Hubs program, which will expand the geography of innovation to benefit communities across the country and our nation as a whole. This historic legislation also empowers the National Institute of Standards and Technology to meet its critical mission supporting U.S. competitiveness, American manufacturing, and important industries of the future, from artificial intelligence to quantum computing. I thank the dedicated employees across the Department of Commerce for their significant intellectuals contribution to this legislation, and I thank the Secretary for her dogged support of the bill.
