Chairwoman Johnson Applauds Enactment of Law to Prevent and Advance Knowledge of Major Fires
(Dallas, TX)—This week, President Biden signed into law H.R. 7077, the Empowering the U.S. Fire Administration Act. This bipartisan law authorizes the U.S. Fire Administration to conduct on-site investigations of major fires. The law will help bring to bear the expertise of the U.S. Fire Administration following major fires to contribute to what we can learn from these fires and how we can prevent them from occurring in the future. The Act was marked up in the Science Committee earlier this year.
“I’m proud to see that this law has been enacted by President Biden,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “I’d like to thank and congratulate Congressman Torres, as well as many Members on my Committee, for their work on bringing this law forward. The importance of the Empowering the U.S. Fire Administration Act cannot be denied, and I was proud to have helped advance it through the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Despite advances in fire codes, loss of life from building fires still occurs far too frequently. This law will help ensure the U.S. Fire Administration has the tools it needs to investigate these fires and contribute to improved prevention and mitigation in the future.”
