Chairwoman Johnson Congratulates 2020 Nobel Laureates
(Dallas, TX) – Over the last week, the 2020 Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine as well as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences, were announced. Each year, thousands of nominators submit candidates for the Nobel Prize.
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“I am so delighted to learn of the number of women Nobel Laureates who have been recognized for their achievements in STEM fields this year, including Dr. Doudna who testified before the Science, Space, and Technology Committee on her research several years ago. There are many known barriers that women in STEM face from lack of work-life balance policies to toxic campus and workplace climates. Each of the women who have been awarded Nobel Prizes is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when adequate opportunities and resources are provided.
“I offer my sincerest congratulations to all of this year’s laureates. These remarkable individuals have reshaped our understanding of the world around us, and are an inspiration to the next generation of scientists and engineers who are working to solve our most pressing global issues.”
