Chairwoman Johnson Congratulates ITER Team on the Launch of the Assembly Phase
(Dallas, TX) – This morning, multiple Heads of State and senior government officials representing each ITER Member gathered in Paris to celebrate the official Start of Machine Assembly for the ITER project. Based in Southern France, the ITER project is a collaborative experiment among the seven ITER Members—the United States, the European Union, China, India, Japan, Korea, and Russia—with the objective of constructing the world’s largest fusion device and the first to produce net energy.
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“Today is truly a momentous day for fusion energy. This milestone was made possible by the commitment of each ITER Member to safely deliver components on schedule in recent months, even given the significant adversity imposed by the global pandemic. I’m immensely proud of the hard work and leadership of the U.S. ITER team as well as our partners across the world, which demonstrates the united dedication that we all have to fighting climate change and enabling a clean energy future. I will continue to fully support the U.S.’s critical contributions to the success of this project, and look forward to following the assembly phase closely as it moves forward.”
