Chairwoman Johnson Statement on President Biden’s First State of the Union Address

(Dallas, TX)—Yesterday evening, President Joe Biden delivered his first State of the Union Address to a Joint Session of Congress.

“Last night, President Biden spoke to each and every American on what we have and what we can achieve as we work together to build a better America,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “As Chairwoman of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I was especially glad to hear the President reaffirm his strong commitments to our scientific, research, manufacturing, and innovation efforts here in the United States. From research to combat gun violence to supporting early career researchers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Science Committee is committed to working with the President to deliver on these efforts for the American people. Specifically, the President called on Congress last night to bring a competitiveness package to his desk as soon as we can. I agree with President Biden. I am proud to have worked with my colleagues in the House to pass the America COMPETES Act and I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues as we move towards a conference on our competitiveness bills. We are working together to usher in a bold and prosperous future for American science and innovation, and we cannot afford to lose our momentum on this initiative.”
