Chairwoman Johnson Statement on the Loss of William Ruckelshaus
(Washington, DC) – Earlier today, William D. Ruckelshaus, the first Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and former Deputy Attorney General, passed away. Mr. Ruckelshaus is largely credited with helping shape the EPA in the early 1970s.
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“I am deeply saddened to learn that today we lost the ‘father of the EPA,’ William Ruckelshaus. As the first Administrator of the EPA and later as the Administrator tasked with restoring trust in the Agency, he was a valuable voice in the environmental protection community. He was a friend to the Committee and continued to provide valuable input to us even this year. He never stopped believing in the mission of the EPA, to protect public health and the environment, and that it should be a bipartisan endeavor. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
