Chairwoman Johnson Statement on Trump Rollback of Emissions Standards
(Dallas, TX) – Yesterday, despite pushback from major automakers, the Trump Administration announced the final rule to roll back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards for tailpipe emissions from vehicles. This new rule will loosen fuel efficiency standards for automakers that would lead to an increase of nearly a billion more tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the lifetime of vehicles built during this rule.
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“I am profoundly upset that in the midst of a pandemic the Trump Administration is pushing out a new rule that will increase air pollution and carbon emissions and will further exacerbate climate change impacts. Right now, our Nation needs strong and responsible leadership, not an Administration that continues to engage in actions that will further threaten public health and the environment.”
