Chairwoman Johnson Urges President Trump to Restore U.S. Funding of World Health Organization
(Dallas, TX) – Yesterday, the President announced at a coronavirus press briefing that he plans to instruct his “administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization's role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.”
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“I am shocked and deeply disturbed by President Trump’s decision to investigate and halt U.S. funding of the World Health Organization during the middle of this crisis. Surely the President should understand that responding to a pandemic is an unprecedented task that he too has struggled to effectively manage. Meanwhile, large numbers of Americans are gravely ill and losing their lives. Science-based decision making is crucial for an effective response to this pandemic. The United States cannot afford assaults on science and facts at any time, least of all during this pandemic. The world must to work together by using the best available science to stop the spread of COVID-19 and address its lasting impacts. I strongly urge the President to reconsider this decision and restore funding to WHO.”
