Chairwomen Johnson and Horn Statements on the 30th Anniversary of the Hubble Telescope
(Washington, DC) – Today marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope from Kennedy Space Center aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.
“The Hubble Space Telescope is an incredible testament to American ingenuity and innovation,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “Thanks to Hubble, over the last thirty years we have been able to see into the depths of our universe and explore its many mysteries from here on Earth. From capturing the evolution of galaxies to the death of stars, the knowledge we have gained from Hubble fuels our nation’s mission of discovery and exploration. The impact Hubble has made around the globe is vast. That impact continues to grow as successive generations enter classrooms and open textbooks that have been rewritten with the knowledge gained from Hubble.”
“Thirty years ago, the United States launched into a new age of space exploration and scientific discovery with the debut of the Hubble Telescope,” said Congresswoman Kendra Horn (D-OK). “This groundbreaking tool has shaped our view of space and understanding of our place among the stars, showing us how planets and galaxies form and revealing the vastness, complexity and age of the universe. Hubble is proof of what we can learn when America invests in space exploration and discovery. Its impact has been felt in countless ways over the past 30 years and will continue for years to come.”
