Committee Bolsters Policy/Outreach Staff

The U.S. House Committee on Science and Technology has chosen two seasoned professionals to manage and coordinate the Committee’s legislative activities in the 110th Congress.

Chairman Bart Gordon (D-TN) today announced that he has hired Louis Finkel to serve as the Committee’s Director of Policy and Outreach and Alisa Ferguson for the position of Legislative Director.

As Director of Policy and Outreach, Louis Finkel will assist in managing the Committee’s agenda and will organize the Chairman’s effort to reach a broad spectrum of constituencies with interests in the Committee.

"As Chairman, I’ve pledged that this Committee will be one of 'good ideas and consensus;' Louis is key to implementing that pledge,"
said Gordon.  "He will steer our committee agenda and organize our efforts to reach out to folks interested in the business of the committee.  His unique balance of Hill and private sector experience make him extensively qualified for the task."

This appointment marks Finkel’s return to Capitol Hill after nearly six years in the private sector representing the interests of educational institutions, non-profits, technology companies and energy interests.  Previously, he worked in several legislative capacities on the Hill, including serving a stint as Legislative Director to Rep. Gordon.

Alisa Ferguson is charged with coordinating the Committee’s legislative activities and serving as policy advisor.  She will also manage budget and appropriations issues, as well as special projects, for the Committee.

"Alisa has an outstanding background in policy and a proven record of getting things done on Capitol Hill," said Gordon.  "She will help us coordinate the Committee’s legislative activities – from hearing and mark-ups to working with our Members to craft legislation that helps science and technology make good sense back home."

Ferguson moves to the Committee from Chairman Gordon’s personal office, where she handled his Energy and Commerce Committee work, as well as appropriations.  Previously, she worked as a Legislative Assistant for Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA).
