Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Re-elected to Serve as Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairwoman
(Dallas, TX) — Today, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) was unanimously re-elected to serve as the Chairwoman of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee for the 117th Congress by the House Democratic Caucus. Congresswoman Johnson is the first African American and the first female Chair of the Science Committee.
Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.
“I am thrilled and honored to have been re-elected to serve as the Chairwoman of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. After being selected as the Committee’s Chairwoman two years ago, my colleagues and I wasted no time in getting to work on our priorities of acting on the climate crisis with science, fighting for scientific integrity throughout the Federal government, bringing a respect for science back to the Committee, and ensuring the U.S. remains a leader in science and innovation. I believe we have made great progress in these goals, and the Committee’s record will show that. However, there is still much work to be done for the American people, and I am looking forward to leading the Science Committee for another two years.
“In the 117th Congress, I will continue to push for a positive, and whenever possible, bipartisan legislative agenda with innovation at the forefront to ensure the U.S. remains competitive and has a pipeline to the 21st century jobs our nation needs. An important part of that effort will be working to make sure that opportunities in the STEM fields can be had by all, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic factors. And I will continue to push for initiatives to address the challenge posed by our changing climate.
“In all my years in Congress and on this Committee, I have witnessed what can happen when we come together as lawmakers to work toward solutions to our nation and our world’s most pressing issues. There is much work to be done, and I’m eager to get started. I hope that every Member appointed to this Committee will join me in working to ensure a better future for all.”
