Energy Subcommittee Democrats Send Letter to Chairwoman Lummis – Urge Committee to Hold Legislative Hearings
(Washington, DC) – Today, Ranking Member of the Energy Subcommittee, Eric Swalwell (D-CA), and the other Democratic Members of the Energy Subcommittee, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL), Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D-MA), Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX), and Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA), sent a letter to Chairwoman Lummis expressing their desire to work together in a bipartisan manner on the Department of Energy Research and Development Act of 2014. Yesterday, a markup of the bill was adjourned by the Republicans on a party-line recorded vote before any consideration of the bill after Republicans refused to read their own legislation publicly. The bill, which covers all Department of Energy research and development programs, was first provided to Democratic Members and the stakeholder community less than three business days before the markup. Democrats are urging the Chairman to hold legislative hearings on the bill before proceeding further.
