Ranking Member Johnson Applauds Nominations of Moniz and McCarthy

(Washington, DC) – This morning the President announced his intent to nominate Dr. Ernest Moniz to lead the Department of Energy, and Ms. Gina McCarthy to lead the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson reacted favorably to the announcement and said the following:

“It is undeniable that DOE Secretary Chu and EPA Director Lisa Jackson have left large shoes to fill by their successors. Dr. Chu has been a tireless champion for sustainable energy and a champion for advancing STEM education within the broad space of energy technology. Ms. Jackson has worked tirelessly to reduce carbon emissions and put in place pollution standards with the aim of protecting public health. While we will miss the service of those who are departing, I am pleased the President has nominated two excellent individuals who can further the efforts of their respective agencies.

“Dr. Ernest Moniz has a wealth of experience addressing our energy challenges and will be effective in continuing to advance the President’s “all of the above approach” to achieving greater energy independence. Ms. McCarthy has led the EPA Office of Air and Radiation efforts to develop landmark Clean Air Act standards and has played a critical role in developing fuel efficiency standards that will help everyday Americans save money at the pump and reduce carbon pollution.

“We look forward to working with both Dr. Moniz and Ms. McCarthy in the current Congress to address issues of climate change and to develop a reliable and sustainable energy future.”
