Ranking Member Johnson Attends White House Science Fair

(Washington, DC) – Today, President Obama hosted the third annual White House Science Fair to celebrate the achievements of students in a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) endeavors. The White House Science Fair was created to recognize the inspiring work of aspiring young engineers, scientists and mathematicians – the next generation of inventors and innovators.

Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) was in attendance and visited several exhibits during the event. She spoke afterwards emphasizing the vital role STEM education plays in securing the future of American ingenuity.

“Every year we are amazed at the talent and vision our young students have to create inspirational projects that may one day lead to the innovative breakthroughs of the future. A young man from Colorado was inspired to apply his passion for robotics to change the way prosthetics can be manufactured through 3D printing. Three young women, from my home state of Texas, designed and built a rocket that launched a payload of eggs to a precise height and landed them safely. These extraordinary students exemplify what is possible when we make investments in STEM education.

“We must continue to inspire curiosity, to promote vision, and to develop opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to ensure the next generation is well equipped to handle the challenges of the future.”
