Ranking Member Johnson, Congressman Beyer and Congressman Lipinski Ask Committee Republicans to Look into President Trump’s Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities and Practices

(Washington, DC) – Today, Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA), and Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-IL) requested that Committee Republicans investigate the numerous cybersecurity vulnerabilities and careless cybersecurity practices of President Trump and his senior White House staff. Only three weeks into his tenure, numerous media stories have already reported that President Trump and his Press Secretary’s official Twitter accounts are linked to private, unsecured e-mail accounts and that the President continues to use an unsecured cell phone. The letter highlighted the keen Republican interest in cybersecurity issues in the last Congress and encouraged them to take just as much interest in the current cybersecurity threats posed by the Trump Administration’s cybersecurity practices at next week’s Research and Technology Subcommittee hearing on cybersecurity and at future cybersecurity hearings until these issues are resolved.

These and other issues are addressed in a letter these Members sent to Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX), Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Darin LaHood (R-IL), and Research and Technology Subcommittee Chairwoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA).  The full text of the letter can be found here.
