Ranking Member Johnson Welcomes Swearing-in of Commerce Secretary Bryson

(Washington, DC) - Last Friday, John Bryson was sworn in as U.S. Secretary of Commerce.  In response, Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) released the following statement:

“As the Ranking Member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I look forward to working with Secretary Bryson on policies and programs that will strengthen our economy and create new jobs.  The Department of Commerce plays a key role in spurring innovation and competitiveness, protecting life and property, conserving and protecting natural resources, ensuring our ability to accurately predict and monitor hazardous weather conditions, expanding our manufacturing base, and opening up new international markets for American goods.”

“Secretary Bryson is well-respected on both sides of the aisle.  He has extensive and practical experience in both the public and private sector.  I am confident that he will serve this country well as Commerce Secretary, and I am eager to work with him to get our economy back on track and ensure that the United States remains the global leader in innovation.”     

The Science, Space, and Technology Committee has jurisdiction over activities at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Economic Development Administration, all agencies within the U.S. Department of Commerce.
