Ranking Member Johnson’s Statement on the Clean Power Plan

(Washington, DC) – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized the Clean Power Plan, a rule that will reduce carbon emissions in the United States 32 percent by 2030.

Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) released the following statement:  “I am pleased by the President’s commitment to confront the most important environmental and public health challenge of our time—climate change. The Clean Power Plan is the bold and necessary step forward our nation needs to address the impacts of climate change. Severe drought, record temperatures, and an increase in heavy rain events are just a few examples of what Americans are facing now and can expect to see more frequently in the coming years. The scientific evidence confirms that we need to act now to lessen these impacts. The Clean Power Plan does just that. It sets reasonable limits, incentivizes the development and deployment of energy efficiency and renewable technologies, and provides states with the flexibility they need to achieve meaningful carbon reductions. The costs and risks of inaction are just too high and that is why I am pleased that the Obama Administration is moving forward with the Clean Power Plan.”
