Ranking Member Johnson's Statement on President Trump’s Energy Independence Executive Order

(Washington, DC) – Earlier today, President Trump signed an executive order that aims to roll back a number of Obama Administration actions on climate change, including ‘rewriting’ the Clean Power Plan.

Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.

“Today’s executive order is another misguided effort by the President to cripple the EPA and undo important environmental protections put into place by the Obama Administration. Scientific evidence shows us that the effects of greenhouse gas emissions have a very real and destructive effect on our climate and public health. A strong economy and a healthy environment are not mutually exclusive. If we are to stand a chance of lessening the negative impacts of climate change, we must act without delay. This executive order does the exact opposite, and will lead to needless damage to our environment and quality of life.”
