Ranking Member Lofgren Applauds DOE Moving Forward with CHIPS and Science Authorized Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation
(Washington, DC)—Today, the Department of Energy (DOE) released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public and stakeholder input on the Department’s first-ever agency-related Foundation. The Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation (FESI) was authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act, led by the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. The Foundation will help to fill the gap between the government-funded research performed at the lab bench and deploying clean energy technologies in communities across our nation by aligning promising technologies with philanthropic partners.
“I am pleased to see that today, the Department of Energy has released a Request for Information seeking stakeholder input on the establishment of the Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation, DOE’s first-ever agency-related Foundation,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA). “The Foundation was authorized in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, but Members of the Science Committee have championed the idea for many years. FESI is a prime example of the kind of scientific solutions that the Science Committee works towards to ensure that the American people get a return on our investment in science. This first step by the Department is a huge accomplishment in itself, but there is much work to be done, yet. I look forward to working with the Department on this initiative.”
