Ranking Member Lofgren Congratulates 2023 Nobel Prize Winners
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the Nobel Prizes in Medicine, Physics and Chemistry were announced. These Awards honor the extraordinary accomplishments and innovations of their recipients. Each year, thousands of nominators submit candidates for the Nobel Prize, and Laureates are announced in October. Still remaining to be announced are the prizes in Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences.
Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) made the following statement:
“The Nobel Prizes are a powerful representation of achievement and progress. Every year I am inspired by the groundbreaking accomplishments made by each individual nominated for a Nobel Prize. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and profound gratitude to this year’s science laureates, including Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman, whose work led to COVID vaccine development and has saved countless lives during the global pandemic. I’m especially proud to honor the US-based researchers Pierre Agostini, Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus, Alexei I. Ekimov, and the previously mentioned Karikó and Weissman. Their impactful contributions to society and the sciences will be celebrated for generations to come. These laureates have not only helped to advance their respective fields but also serve as a beacon for the scientific community, emphasizing the importance of continued exploration and innovation. I look forward to learning of the remaining awards."
