Ranking Member Lofgren Opening Statement for Full Committee Markup of HR 3560

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held a Full Committee Markup of H.R. 3560, the National Drone and Advanced Air Mobility Research and Development Act.

Ranking Member Lofgren's (D-CA) opening statement as prepared for the record is below.

Thank you, Chairman Lucas. Today the Science Committee looks to the skies. We are considering how to direct our federal research enterprise toward advancing U.S. leadership so that technology can better serve our country. The Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute that the Chairman will introduce has benefitted from extensive bipartisan collaboration and, I believe, is stronger for it. I would like to thank the Chairman and his staff for their engagement and consideration of our input, and I thank the Minority staff for their diligence and hard work. We continue to be an exceptionally productive committee because we continue to work together across the aisle.

H.R. 3560, the National Drone and Advanced Air Mobility Research and Development Act, will help enable Federal agencies and U.S. companies to deliver on the promise of UAS and AAM technologies in everything from agriculture to search and rescue missions to a transportation future that currently exists only in our imaginations. In supporting safety, promoting domestic manufacturing, leveraging partnerships, and preparing a future workforce through research and development, this legislation, as amended, will serve to integrate this new technology into our lives safely, and give the American economy greater access to a new sector in which to grow.

I look forward to a productive markup today. With that, Mr. Chairman, I yield back.
