Ranking Member Lofgren Reacts to Trump’s Illegal Firings of Inspectors General
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Late last night, the President fired the inspectors general (IGs) of at least twelve federal agencies.
“Friday night’s mass firing of IGs is wrong,” said Ranking Member Lofgren. “Inspectors general are crucial to fighting waste, fraud, and abuse in our government. IGs operate independently and are meant to be nonpartisan agency watchdogs. In fact, these attempted firings appear to be illegal. We in Congress must push back against this. As Ranking Member of the Science Committee I am committed to supporting oversight efforts within our agencies of jurisdiction. It’s imperative to the taxpayer that we uphold the integrity of these offices, not tear them down the way Trump has done in the middle of the night.”
With the fate of federal Inspectors General in jeopardy, it’s important to note Congressional Committees stand ready to intake whistleblower complaints within their respective jurisdictions.
