Science Committee Democrats Organize and Announce Subcommittee Ranking Members

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology met to organize and adopt Committee Rules.

“With our Committee now organized, we’re ready to hit the ground running,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA). “I want to extend my congratulations to each of our Subcommittee Ranking Members. As the lead Democrat on the Committee, I am laser-focused on sticking up for federal science. Since Inauguration Day, the Trump Administration has been working hard to crumble the foundation of the American scientific enterprise we have spent so long reinforcing with time, effort, and taxpayer dollars. We have a responsibility to uphold scientific integrity and our nation’s prowess as the leader in science and technology. I intend to do just that and look forward to doing it alongside my colleagues.”

“North Carolinians are increasingly concerned about the high cost of the energy they use to drive their cars and power their homes and businesses. At the same time, the people of our state recognize the urgency and importance of transitioning to cleaner sources of energy as we confront the dire threat posed by climate change. I am honored to serve as Ranking Member of the Energy Subcommittee for the 119th Congress and excited to get to work with my colleagues to find innovative solutions to these challenges,” said Subcommittee on Energy Ranking Member Deborah Ross (D-NC). “Now more than ever, it’s imperative that we work together to strengthen America’s energy independence, create the clean energy jobs of tomorrow, and ensure that we leave a more sustainable world for future generations of Americans.”

“Last Congress, I advocated for Rhode Island's leadership in the Blue Economy, a key sector that encompasses ocean research, marine manufacturing, and clean energy. I also highlighted the growing NOAA footprint in our state and introduced legislation to develop curriculum on artificial intelligence literacy,” said Subcommittee on Environment Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI). “This Congress, as a subcommittee ranking member under the leadership of Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren, I look forward to fighting dangerous Trump Administration and Congressional Republican proposals to reverse climate action and defund critical scientific research. We must oppose their efforts as we work to spur innovation and confront the complex challenges facing our generation.”

“I am honored to serve the people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District in my capacity on the Science, Space, & Technology Committee,” said Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight Ranking Member Emilia Sykes (D-OH). “Through my positions on this committee and its subcommittees, I am able to draft critical legislation and secure resources like grant funding to support the Akron Sustainable Polymers Tech Hub. While my role on the Science, Space, & Technology Committee is critical to my communities, it is only possible with the voices of Ohio 13 that I bring with me to Washington. In the 119th Congress, I’ll make sure that those voices are heard loud and clear.”

“I am proud to continue to serve as the lead Democratic member on the Research & Technology Subcommittee in the 119th Congress," said Subcommittee on Research and Technology Ranking Member Haley Stevens (D-MI). "At this critical point in the race to win the mid-21st century across artificial intelligence, quantum, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and other emerging technologies, the United States must double down - not retreat - in our commitment to fostering a robust innovation economy and a diverse STEM pipeline. With jurisdiction over critical Federal science agencies, the Research & Technology Subcommittee will play an important role in positioning the United States to win. I look forward to working my Democratic and Republican colleagues to advance policies that do just that.”

“As the representative of a district at the forefront of our scientific enterprise, I am honored to serve as Ranking Member for the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee,” said Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics Ranking Member Valerie Foushee (D-NC). “It is critical for the United States to remain the leader in space exploration and research, aeronautics, and emerging technologies, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to foster innovation and ensure safety, strengthen university-research partnerships, expand opportunities in STEM, and accelerate scientific advancements that address both the challenges of today and our future endeavors.”
