Science Committee Members Celebrate CHIPS and Science Act Tech Hub and Strategy Development Grant Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Yesterday, the Biden Administration designated 31 communities across the country that will serve as Regional Innovation and Technology Hubs. Also known as the Tech Hubs Program, this program was enacted as part of the CHIPS and Science Act to establish and support regional innovation centers across the country. The Tech Hubs will leverage the strengths of their community, regional industry, and geographical location to build and scale their Innovation and Technology Hub. In addition to the hub designations, a number of organizations across the country received Strategy Development Grants. These strategy grants will help strengthen the organization to potentially be considered for a hub designation at a later time. This program is a holistic investment in regional economies that will also address access to quality STEM education, opportunity, and investment in economically disadvantaged communities.
Every state represented by Democratic Members of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology received either a Tech Hub designation or a Strategy Development Grant.
Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1), Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11), Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), Rep. Deborah Ross (NC-2), Rep. Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Rep. Andrea Salinas (OR-6), Rep. Valerie Foushee (NC-4), Rep. Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Rep. Jeff Jackson (NC-14), Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13), Rep. Maxwell Frost (FL-10), Rep. Yadira Caraveo (CO-8), Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12), Rep. Jennifer McClellan (VA-4), Rep. Ted Lieu (CA-36), Rep. Sean Casten (IL-6), and Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20) made the following statement:
“We find success in our endeavors when we leverage our strengths, seize all opportunity, and ensure all voices are heard,” said the Members. “The Tech Hubs program will do exactly that. These innovation hubs, each carefully chosen to capitalize on the strengths of their respective region, will connect the nation, transform our economy, strengthen diversity and equity, create good-paying jobs, and build up communities. This program is one of the crown jewels of the CHIPS and Science Act and will unify us as we advance together to lead in science and innovation. We are proud that organizations in states across the country were deservedly awarded a hub designation or strategy development grant. From Alaska to North Carolina, every region of the country will be a part of our revitalized leadership in science and technology. As Members of the Science Committee, which led the CHIPS and Science Act in the House of Representatives, we each look forward to working with our own state or region’s Tech Hub, strategy development grant recipient, and the Administration as this program makes an impact.”
