Science Democrats Select Subcommittees
Democrats on the House Science Committee today selected their subcommittees, and the Full Committee unanimously adopted a resolution approving the Democratic action, thus completing the Committee's organizational process. The process was suspended on February 14 to seek guidance from the Caucus on the status of several Members with temporary assignments to the Committee.
Today the Members made the following subcommittee selections:
Research: Bob Etheridge, NC; Steve Israel, NY; Lynn Rivers, MI; John Larson, CT; Brian Baird, WA; Joe Baca, CA; Dennis Moore, KS; and Lynn Woolsey, CA.
Space and Aeronautics: Nick Lampson, TX; John Larson, CT; Dennis Moore, KS; Zoe Lofgren, CA; Sheila Jackson Lee, TX; Bob Etheridge, NC; Mark Udall, CO; David Wu, OR; and Anthony Weiner, NY.
Environment, Technology & Standards: Lynn Rivers, MI; Zoe Lofgren, CA; Mark Udall, CO; Anthony D. Weiner, NY; Brian Baird, WA; Joseph M. Hoeffel, PA; and Joe Baca, CA.
Energy: Jerry Costello, IL; Sheila Jackson Lee, TX; David Wu, OR; Jim Matheson, UT; and Nick Lampson, TX.
On February 14 the Democrats elected the following as their Ranking Minority Members of the Subcommittees: Research: Eddie Bernice Johnson, TX; Space and Aeronautics: Bart Gordon, TN; Environment, Technology & Standards: James A. Barcia, MI; and Energy: Lynn Woolsey, CA.
The Ranking Minority Member of the Full Committee, Ralph Hall, said, "I am pleased that we have completed the organizational process, and we look forward to working with Chairman Boehlert as we begin to address the important issues before the Committee."
The Democrats have 22 seats on the Committee. The Caucus has assigned 21 Members to the Committee thus far.
