State Attorneys General, Environmental Groups, and Democratic Members Respond to Majority’s Latest Attack on Climate Science
(Washington, DC) – Last month, 13 Republican Members of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent letters to 17 state attorneys general (AGs) and eight environmental organizations requesting documents related to their work on misinformation regarding climate change. The AGs and environmental groups have begun sending responses. Congressional leaders from Virginia, Maryland, and DC – Reps. Edwards, Norton, Van Hollen, Connolly, and Scott – joined Rep. Beyer, Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee, in sending a letter to the Chairman requesting that “the Letter and all corresponding requests be withdrawn.
Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) offered the following statement:
“I want to thank the attorneys general and the environmental groups for responding to this request in a timely manner. I am pleased that they are resisting the Majority’s unreasonable demands. This is not about legitimate oversight, this is about harassing and intimidating those who are working to expose the truth about Exxon Mobil's actions to hide its knowledge of? ongoing climate change. Yet again, the Republicans have decided to launch an anti-science witch hunt ?that does not serve this committee or the nation."
