Three Democratic Science Committee Members Tapped for Bipartisan AI Taskforce
(WASHINGTON, DC) — Today, Democratic and Republican Leadership of the House of Representatives announced a bipartisan artificial intelligence taskforce. The bipartisan taskforce will work to address the legitimate risks of AI while fostering innovation and ensuring the U.S. can remain a leader in this technology.
The Science Committee is consistently at the forefront of the technologies of the future. Of the twelve Democratic Members of the House named to the taskforce, three are Democratic Members of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR),Subcommittee on Research and Technology Ranking Member Haley Stevens (D-MI), Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight Ranking Member Valerie Foushee (D-NC), were tapped for the taskforce.
“Artificial Intelligence has tremendous potential to improve lives, but that potential also poses significant risks that must not be ignored," said Congresswoman Bonamici. "Deepfake robocalls, algorithmic bias, and risks to data privacy and integrity exemplify the urgent need for guardrails in this rapidly growing field. Additionally, we must consider the effects that AI could have on jobs and the workforce and on energy use. I’m honored to serve on this bipartisan AI taskforce and look forward to working with my colleagues to promote the responsible and ethical development and use of AI.”
