Chairwoman Johnson Applauds the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights

(Dallas, TX)—Yesterday, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights to help guide the design, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and other automated systems. The five-point framework aims to protect the rights of the American public in an increasingly automated world.

“The Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights is a critical step to ensure that the development and use of artificial intelligence and automated technologies adhere to our democratic values and civil rights,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “AI systems have the potential to bring incredible societal benefits, but only if we do the hard work of ensuring AI products and services are safe and secure, accurate, transparent, free of harmful bias, and otherwise trustworthy.”

“Congress passed the National AI Initiative Act in 2020, which I led alongside Ranking Member Frank Lucas,” Chairwoman Johnson continued. “The National AI Initiative Act establishes a national initiative and lays the technical and ethical foundations for U.S. leadership in trustworthy artificial intelligence. The blueprint that OSTP released builds upon this legislation, and I applaud the Biden Administration for its work.”
