Chairwoman Johnson Celebrates House Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

(Washington, DC)— Today, the House passed H.R. 5376, the Inflation Reduction Act. The Inflation Reduction Act is historic legislation that will lower costs for families, create millions of good-paying jobs, deliver the most significant action on climate in history, and dramatically reduce the deficit. The bill includes transformative funding for scientific infrastructure and operations at the Department of Energy and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

 

“The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is a critical turning point in our response to the climate crisis,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “Over the past five years, climate disasters have taken 4,557 lives and cost our nation $798 billion. With the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, Congress and the Biden Administration are delivering unparalleled investments for climate research and mitigation efforts to tackle this crisis and protect Americans from its impacts. As Chairwoman of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I am especially glad to see increased support for climate and weather forecasting and research at NOAA included in this bill. These investments will advance climate research and support the dissemination of accurate weather and climate information for all Americans.
