Chairwoman Johnson Celebrates President Biden Signing the CHIPS and Science Act into Law

(Washington, DC)— Today, President Biden signed the CHIPS and Science Act into law.

“Today, President Biden signed into law the most significant investment in American science, technology, and innovation in over a decade,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). “We saw the critical need to revitalize support for our scientific enterprise and we answered it. With the enactment of the CHIPS and Science Act, we have the resources and support to remain a leader and compete for many years to come. In this law are many provisions that began in the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology that will renew support for our premier federal science agencies, bolster our economic and national security, and more. These provisions were built from months--and in some cases years--of conversations with the scientific community, industry, academia, and other stakeholders about what they need as they work to find solutions to our most pressing challenges.

“We will build the strong, diverse workforce we need as we enter the next era of American research and innovation with this law. This law will address the climate crisis, create jobs, and lower costs for American families by supporting manufacturing of critical goods here at home. Importantly, this law will also enhance our American semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. It has been an honor to help lead this effort in the House and I thank my colleagues and staff for their hard work to get this bill to the President’s desk to be signed today. I also want to thank Speaker Pelosi, Leader Hoyer, and Leader Schumer for their strong support in this effort. I look forward to working with the Biden Administration as we begin to implement this law and seeing the innovation it sparks across America.”
