Chairwoman Johnson Urges Swift Consideration of President’s Nominee Christopher Frey as Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Research and Development

(Washington, DC) – Last week, President Biden announced his intent to nominate Dr. Christopher Frey to serve as Assistant Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Research and Development (ORD). The ORD is a non-regulatory office within EPA that conducts leading-edge research and development that underpins the Agency’s decisions.

“I was pleased to see President Biden’s announcement of his intent to nominate Dr. Christopher Frey to serve as Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Research and Development,” said Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. “EPA’s ORD has not had a Senate-confirmed Assistant Administrator in nearly a decade. Dr. Frey’s history of engagement with EPA through numerous scientific advisory committees, a distinguished academic career in environmental engineering and science, and a strong commitment to scientific integrity make him an excellent pick for this position. As Americans across the country, especially those in environmental justice communities, face intensifying public health impacts caused by pollution and climate change, it’s more important than ever that the EPA have strong leadership at ORD. EPA’s ORD is key to advancing this Administration’s priorities that are founded on science, equity, and justice for the benefit of the health and well-being of all Americans. I urge the Senate to swiftly consider Dr. Frey’s nomination.”
