Ranking Member Celebrates Fusion Ignition at Lawrence Livermore National Lab
(Washington, DC)—Today, Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) attended an event at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to celebrate the December 2022 milestone of achieving fusion ignition at the National Ignition Facility.
“I was delighted to celebrate the monumental achievement of fusion ignition at Livermore Lab today,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA). “As the Ranking Member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I’m proud of and take very seriously the role the Committee plays in building support and shaping national policy for fusion energy development. The work of the staff, scientists, researchers, and engineers at Livermore and NIF to reach this milestone late last year has created a momentum that we cannot waste. To address the climate crisis, we must move toward a clean energy future, and fusion energy has vast potential in helping us achieve that. I remain committed to this effort and am doing everything I can to make sure that our federal funding reflects the progress and promise of this great endeavor.”
