Ranking Member Johnson Condemns Repeal of Clean Power Plan

(Washington, DC) –Today, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt signed a proposal to eliminate the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan. This follows an executive order signed in March 2017 ordering the EPA to review the landmark climate change rule, as well as a decision by the Trump Administration to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) made the following statement.

“I am profoundly saddened that the Trump Administration is continuing to abdicate the United States’ leadership in energy efficiency and renewable energy production, and is continuing to put the health of Americans and our planet at risk by moving to repeal the Clean Power Plan. This historic misstep will not bring back coal jobs, but will wind up harming our economy and our environment. As extreme weather events ravage our country, it is paramount that we continue to fight to mitigate the effects of climate change, not turn a blind eye to them."
