Ranking Member Johnson’s Response to the President’s State of the Union Address

(Washington, DC) – Ranking Member Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) released the following statement following President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address:

“While our nation pushes forward with renewed optimism behind our growing economy, I hope this Congress can, as the President stated, come together to ‘recapture the sense of common purpose that has always propelled America forward’ and find bipartisan solutions to the challenges that lay before us.

“Our nation’s research and development enterprise has been a major economic driver over the past century. Tonight, I was pleased to hear the President speak about the payoffs American workers have experienced as a result of these investments. Educating the next great American innovators and entrepreneurs is a vital element of our innovation economy. I fully support the President’s bold plan to give more aspiring students the opportunity to complete a college degree.

“I also agree with the President that we must continue to invest in clean energy technologies and infrastructure. Protecting our environment must be a core consideration in every decision we make. I look forward to working with the President to find solutions that will address climate change now and protect our environment for future generations.”
