Ranking Member Lofgren Calls Out Trump Administration for Gutting Natcast and Undermining CHIPS Act
(Washington, DC) – Yesterday, Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, announced that the operations of the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) would be immediately moved from the National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology Center (Natcast) to the Department of Commerce.
“This is yet another glaring example of the Trump Administration undercutting expertise and replacing it with shady political favoritism,” said Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA). “Instead of being focused on the American economy or competition with China, Trump and his cronies' singular focus is on accumulating more power for him. Lutnick's legally dubious cancellation of Natcast will delay the implementation of the CHIPS Act, postpone vital R&D to keep America competitive with China, and undercut years of planning in the private sector and academia. Sounds like another win for China, and a loss for the American taxpayer.”
