Ranking Member Lofgren Statement on NASA Day of Remembrance
(Washington, DC) - Today marks the annual NASA Day of Remembrance, a day to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of advancing our nation’s space program. Established after the Apollo 1 fire in 1967, the observance solemnly commemorates the heroes of the Apollo 1, Space Shuttle Challenger (STS-51L), and Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-107) tragedies.
Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) made the following statement:
“Each January, we pause to honor the men and women who selflessly gave their lives in service of our nation. Their work, grounded in an unwavering commitment to advancing the frontiers of space exploration, reminds us of the courage it takes to chart new territory. Because of their sacrifice, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, striving toward science and exploration achievements once thought unimaginable. We will forever hold in our hearts the memory of these heroes and the families who supported them. As we look to the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the safety and success of our NASA explorers as we look to return to the Moon in preparation for sending the first humans to Mars.”
